Covid 19 in Schools
What a difference a year makes! This photo was taken on crazy hair day at Bacon. Wearing masks, adapting to online learning platforms, and enforcing guidelines are just a few obstacles that challenged educators around the globe. This has been a time when the culture of schools could not be more important. Keeping a sense of community is how education has not missed a beat in cultivating relationships and making connections. It just looked a little different.
I didn't grow up with the internet. It was 1998 when I started at the Art Institute and signed up for my first email account. I was 25 years old and the internet was a wild concept. When I reflect on these times, I am amazed at what is possible today.
Life obstacles are nothing new to me, however the pandemic posed many challenges. I was disappointed, of course. Not only was I 45 when I decided to go back to school but now I was thrown into a new way of learning and educating.
It was easy to embrace every aspect of how Covid changed my education experience because I had so much support and the phrase "we are all in this together" held a lot of weight. It was almost like we had to become experts on the various platforms immediately. This required patience and a sense of humor.
There are many positives that came from this experience. I feel more confident as an educator. I feel that what ever obstacle is thrown my way, I am not alone. Educators are essential. Stepping up to the plate requires cooperation, understanding and dedication.
I have new knowledge of technology. I have discovered new ways to share, assess, and reflect.
