History
Bacon Elementary School, built in 2003, is named for Bob Bacon; who was a PSD teacher for 30 years, a Board of Education member for 8 years, a member of the Colorado House of Representatives and currently in his sixth year representing Fort Collins from Senate District 14. Bacon Elementary School is proud to have earned multiple Energy Star awards and has a nationally recognized student-based energy savings team.

Learning Culture
All members of the Bacon comunity collaborate in a culture of professional learning teams to provide students the best opportunities for a quality education. We are committed to the development of the whole child. We expect students to grow academically, socially, emotionally, and physically.

Bacon is built on a foundation of core values described as BARK(Be Responsible, Always Show Integrity, Respect, and Keep Safe). Bacon uses the Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports, PBiS,  to support teaching character throughout the school day. These expectations are explicitly taught and reinforced in all areas of the school. They are rewarded for positive behavior through weekly drawings and monthly Bulldog Award Assemblies.

Academic Environment
Bacon Elementary School’s curriculum is aligned with 2020 Colorado Academic Standards.  We utilize Poudre School District provided curriculum and research-bassed practices. Our expectations are balanced with high levels of support and enrichment, both below and above grade level. We offer a complete continuum of services for students ranging from special education to gifted and talented, along with a counselor, PE, art, technology, and music. Bacon offers both full-day and half-day kindergarten programs.  We partner with outside venders to provide before and after achool programming.

Extended Learning Programs
Bacon offers a wide range of enrichment opportunities including Lego Robotics, Lego club, chess club, choir, Bacon Energy Savings Team (BEST), mentorship, daily news production, science fair, family literacy night, and PTA sponsored enrichment programs.

Opportunities for Parents
We encourage parents to volunteer through our Parent Volunteer program and the many activities our PTA supports and welcome parent input on through the Bacon Council.

I have a special relationship with Bacon.  I had to take a semester off spring 2019 to save money for the remainder of my education at CSU.  I was employed by Poudre School District as a classified substitute.  I got called for a day at bacon early April and was asked to stay until the remainder of the year.  I worked with three students daily as well as the integrated services with students on the Autism spectrum.  This experience solidified my decision to become an educator.  Becoming a part of the Bacon community even for just two months changed me as a human and as an educator.  I was able to view a range of classroom management styles and soaked it all up like a thirsty sponge.  The culture of this school was warm and welcoming.  I felt like I fit right in and was made to feel at home by both the students and the staff.  This is why I decided to do my elementary student teaching at Bacon.
